Transfer Students

The following transfer credit policy information will aid you in your assessment of how your credits will transfer to Augustana. An official credit evaluation will be completed by the Registrar's Office once a student is admitted to the university.

The following policies do not apply to high school students who are earning dual-credit prior to high school graduation.

General Policies

• Credit will normally be accepted at Augustana from an accredited college or university offering Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees.
• Courses that are transferred for your selected major will be determined by the appropriate department chairperson. Any credit(s) not used toward major or general education core requirements will be treated as an elective.
• Students must complete a minimum of 30 hours of coursework at Augustana and 50% of the required declared major and minor courses to receive an Augustana degree.

Course Equivalencies

• Use the Transfer Evaluation System to search for your institutions and see what courses have typically transferred to Augustana. Note: This is not an exhaustive list. If you do not see your course(s) listed, that does not necessarily mean it will not transfer.

Core Curriculum Waivers

Augustana’s 45-credit core curriculum is referred to as “Sophia," the Greek word for “wisdom." The following determines which components of the curriculum will be waived for certain transfer students:

• Completed Bachelor’s Degree — Students who have previously earned a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree will be waived from all Sophia requirements.
• Completed Associate’s Degree — Students who successfully complete an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree at an accredited institution will receive a blanket waiver from all but eight areas of Sophia requirements.

This policy is for college transfer students only. Students who earn a 2-year degree simultaneously with a high school diploma will have specific courses evaluated.

Waiver Policy by Credit Hour

The following determines which components of the curriculum will be waived for all other traditional transfer students:

• First-Year Transfer — Transferring 1-27 credit hours.
  • If students have completed an English composition course, the FYS 110 course requirement will be waived. Transfer students that begin in their first year will take FYS 112 for one course credit.
• Sophomore Transfers — Transferring 28-57 credit hours.

Completed Bachelor’s Degree

• To apply, complete the free application for admission and scholarships.
• Include transcript(s) from all prior colleges attended.
• High school transcripts and standardized test scores are not required for students who have earned a bachelor’s degree.

Completed Associate’s Degree

• To apply, complete the free application for admission and scholarships.
• Include transcript(s) from all prior colleges attended.
• Include high school transcript.
• Standardized test scores are not required for students who have earned an associate’s degree.

Completed Some College Credits

• To apply, complete the free application for admission and scholarships.
• Include transcript(s) from all prior colleges attended.
• Include high school transcript.
• Standardized test scores are optional per our test-optional admission policy.
  • Test scores are not required for students who have been out of high school for more than three years.

Get Connected

• Student Information Portal — Use your my.freeurdupoetry.com student portal to access important documents and information.
• Student Email — Connect to your student email account (@ole.freeurdupoetry.com) to check for important updates.

Final Transcripts

• Final Official Transcript Request — We require a final, official transcript from all of your previous colleges. If you were recently enrolled in classes, we may still need your transcript from this most recent semester. Transcripts should be emailed to registrar@freeurdupoetry.com or mailed to:

Financial Aid & Billing

• Financial Documents — Accept your financial aid award and complete other important financial documents using your my.freeurdupoetry.com portal.
• Report Outside Scholarships — If you earned outside scholarships, report them so that your financial aid package and billing are accurate.
• Pay Your Bill — You can do this by using your student portal or at the Augustana Business Office. Payment plans are available at freeurdupoetry.com/payment.

Prepare for Classes

• Register for Classes — Contact your admission counselor to schedule a registration time. Registration for the spring semester opens in mid-November, while fall semester registration begins in mid-April.
• Class Schedule — View your class schedule and locations on your student portal.
• Order Textbooks — Books required for your classes are listed on the online book store, which can be accessed through your student portal.

Campus Life

• Housing & Meal Plan — If you will be living on campus, complete your housing application on your student portal. Roommate and housing information will be posted in your portal.
• Parking Permit  — The Parking Permit Request Form is available through your student portal and will be billed to your student account.
• Health Form — All students are required to submit completed health forms before beginning courses at Augustana.
